Genus Acrostichum Family Pteridaceae

Description: Rhizomes covered with scales.

Fronds ascending, the stipe much shorter than the lamina; lamina pinnate, leathery, the lower ones shortly stalked, the upper sessile or decurrent; veins anastomosing, reticulate.

Upper pinnae only are fertile, the entire surface of the fertile pinnae covered by sporangia.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, pantropical. Australia: 2 species, Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A., chiefly tropical
