Genus Agrimonia Family Rosaceae

Description: Perennial rhizomatous herbs with erect glandular-hairy stems.

Leaves irregularly pinnate.

Flowers 5-merous, in terminal spike-like racemes; pedicels short, with 2 bracteoles. Hypanthium cup-shaped, bearing numerous hooked spines. Epicalyx absent. Sepals 5. Petals 5. Stamens 5–20, strongly perigynous. Carpels 2.

Fruit of 1 or 2 achenes enclosed in a hypanthium with margin fringed with a row of hooked spines, burr-like.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 15 species, northern temperate regions. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
