Genus Ardisia Family Primulaceae

Description: Small trees or shrubs, sometimes climbing.

Leaves mostly alternate, lamina with clear or coloured dots or streaks.

Flowers in panicles, corymbs or racemes; 5-merous. Calyx deeply lobed. Corolla 5-lobed. Stamens free, filaments short.

Fruit a drupe, 1-seeded.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 400 species, tropical & subtropical regions. Australia: 6 species, Qld, N.S.W.

Formerly in Myrsinaceae.
