Genus Cratystylis Family Asteraceae

Description: Dioecious, tomentose shrubs.

Leaves crowded, alternate, entire, flat, sessile.

Heads terminal, solitary, cylindrical, sessile on leafy branchlets; involucral bracts oblong to obovate, leathery to scarious, imbricate, unequal, 4- or 5-seriate, not persistent; receptacle minute, naked, convex. Ray florets absent. Female florets filiform, 5-toothed, with 4 or 5 free abortive stamens; ovary fertile. Male florets tubular, 5-toothed, abruptly dilated above; anthers acute at the base and with lanceolate terminal appendages; ovary abortive. Style thick and rigid, style branches flattened, elliptic, papillose.

Achenes terete, glabrous, ribbed; pappus of free, shortly plumose bristles.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, endemic Australia. Australia: N.S.W., Vic., S.A., W.A.
