Description: Tufted erect or spreading annuals.
Culms smooth, slender.
Inflorescence a stiff 1-sided loose to dense panicle, branched in the lower part; branches angled and ridged. Spikelets on short thick pedicles appressed to 1 side of the axis, with 3-several bisexiual florets disarticulating above the glumnes and between each lemma. Glumes unequal, persistent; the lowers 1–3-nerved, the upper 3-nerved. lemmas exserted from the glumes, obtuse, rounded on the back.
Distribution and occurrence: A genus of 6-7 species native to Eurasia.
Sometimes this species and 1 other are included in the genus Catapodium.
