Genus Dracocephalum Family Lamiaceae

Description: Annual or perennial herb or small shrub.

Leaves frequently on short lateral branches, opposite, usually narrow.

Inflorescence terminal or axillary with flower-clusters occurring in axils of upper leaves, spike-like. Calyx tubular or tubular-campanulate, 15-veined, ± 2-lipped; lower lip emarginate or 2-lobed; upper lip 3-lobed, with the median lobe larger than or ± equal to lateral lobes. Corolla 2-lipped; lower lip 3-lobed, with median lobe longer than lateral lobes; upper lip 2-lobed, emarginate; tube narrow at base, widening at the throat. Stamens equal to or rarely exceeding the corolla. Ovary deeply 4-lobed; style gynobasic; stigma equally 2-fid.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 5 species, Europe. Australia: 1 species (doubtfully naturalized).
