Genus Eriostemon Family Rutaceae

Description: Shrubs, branchlets finely stellate-hairy, unarmed.

Leaves alternate, simple, 3- or 5-veined from base, margins entire.

Inflorescences axillary, flowers solitary. Flowers bisexual, 5-merous. Sepals 5, free. Petals 5, imbricate, stellate-scaly, mostly 5-veined from base, not persistent in fruit. Stamens 10, free, usually erect or pyramidally arranged and incurved over the ovary; filaments woolly-ciliate; anthers with a prominent white apiculum [or apiculum absent]. Carpels 5, basally fused or ± free, without a sterile apex; styles fused, arising from about the middle of the carpels; stigma capitate or shortly 5-lobed; ovules 2 in each carpel.

Fruit of 1–5 cocci; cocci not transversely ridged, with rounded or beaked apices; seeds released forcibly from dehiscing cocci, crinkled and glossy, dark brown to black.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 spp., endemic Aust., N.S.W. & Qld.
