Leaves palmately compound, leaflets 3–5, margins toothed or entire; stipules conspicuous on young shoots, 4 at each node, often shed early.
Flowers in axillary racemes, often paniculate. Sepals 4 or 5, fused at the base. Petals absent. Stamens numerous. Ovary superior, 2-locular; ovules numerous.
Fruit a septicidally dehiscent capsule.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 20 species, Australia, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji. Australia: 2 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W.
