Genus Geum Family Rosaceae

Description: Perennial herbs.

Leaves pinnate to deeply pinnatifid, basal leaves few, reducing in size up stem.

Flowers solitary or in bracteate cymes; usually 5-merous. Hypanthium saucer-shaped. Epicalyx present. Sepals 5. Petals 5, ± clawed. Stamens numerous. Carpels numerous; styles terminal.

Fruit a head of achenes, styles usually persistent.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 40 species, northern & southern temperate regions. Australia: 2 species, N.S.W., Vic., Tas.
