Genus Maclura Family Moraceae

Description: Trees, shrubs or woody climbers with stout axillary spines; milky latex usually present but sometimes sparse; dioecious.

Leaves entire.

Flowers in axillary ± globose heads.

Fruit a syncarp, a multiple fruit composed of the fusion of the enlarged floral axis and the fleshy perianths and bracts that envelop the drupes.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 12 species, America, Africa & Asia to Australia. Australia: 2 species, Qld, N.S.W.
