Genus Nertera Family Rubiaceae

Description: Perennial herbs ± rooting at the nodes, mostly glabrous.

Leaves opposite, petiolate; stipules sheathing.

Flowers solitary terminal or in the axils of leaves due to sympodial growth, bisexual, 4- or 5-merous. Calyx scarcely lobed. Corolla short campanulate. Stamens 4, filaments fused to base of corolla tube; anthers exserted. Ovary 2-locular, ovule solitary; stigmas 2, ± sessile, filiform.

Fruit a fleshy, soft drupe; pyrenes 1-seeded.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 11 species, mostly Southern Hemisphere. Australia: 1 or 2 species (native), N.S.W., Vic., Tas.
