Genus Omphalolappula Family Boraginaceae

Description: Annual herbs; stiffly hairy.

Leaves opposite, basal leaves subsessile with a short sheath, upper leaves becoming sessile.

Inflorescence terminal, open scorpioid cymes, bracteate; flowers pedicellate. Sepals fused only at the base. Corolla actinomorphic, cylindrical with papillose scales in the throat. Stamens inserted just below the throat; anthers subsessile, appendages short and acute. Ovary 4-lobed; style short; stigma capitate.

Fruit of 4 prickly mericarps splitting from a slender, conical gynobase.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 species, endemic.
