Genus Phlegmatospermum Family Brassicaceae

Description: Annual herbs.

Flowers in a raceme. Sepals spreading, not saccate. Petals clawed.

Silicula dehiscent, compressed; septum narrow; seeds mucilaginous when wet, 3–10 per loculus.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 4 species, endemic Australia. Australia: N.S.W., Vic., S.A., W.A.

The record of P. eremaeum (J. Black) E. Shaw for N.S.W. is not substantiated. This species is similar to P. cochlearinum but the plants are usually prostrate or spreading and the seeds are smaller (c. 1 mm diam.).
