Genus Pogonolepis Family Asteraceae

Description: Annual herbs; stems prostrate, ascending or erect, simple or branched, ± hairy.

Leaves alternate, occasionally opposite, sessile, entire, mucronate, ± glabrous.

Heads compound; general involucral bracts conspicuous, multiseriate, as long as or longer than head, outer leaf-like, inner ± hyaline with apical papillae; partial heads 5–40 each with 1 floret; involucral bracts of partial heads 2 or 3, ± hyaline whitish, midrib ± inconspicuous, apices papillose. Florets tubular, bisexual; corolla 5-toothed. Anthers with basal tail, apical appendage deltate to ± triangular. Style branches truncate, with short sweeping hairs.

Achenes ± obovoid, covered in mucilaginous cells, distinctly stalked; pappus absent.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, endemic Australia. Australia: Qld, N.S.W., Vic., S.A., W.A.
