Genus Salpichroa Family Solanaceae

Description: Scrambling or climbing perennial herbs.

Leaves alternate, 1 or 2 per node (but not opposite) simple, margins entire, petiolate.

Flowers solitary in leaf axils, bisexual, actinomorphic. Calyx deeply 5-lobed. Corolla urn-shaped, white or yellow; limb 5-lobed, lobes reflexed. Stamens 5, equal, inserted on corolla tube; anthers 2-locular, dorsifixed, dehiscing by longitudinal slits. Ovary 2-locular, an annular disc prominent at base.

Fruit a berry.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 20–25 species, South America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
