Genus Sesbania Family Fabaceae

Description: Herbs, shrubs or small trees.

Leaves alternate, paripinnate; stipules caducous; stipels small or absent.

Inflorescences axillary racemes; bracts and bracteoles usually caducous. Calyx tube broad, truncate or equally toothed. Stamens diadelphous, all curved with keel; anthers uniform or alternate ones longer.

Pod usually linear, ± terete, topped by persistent style, ± constricted by transverse partitions between seeds; seeds many, ± oblong, aril small.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 50 species, tropical & subtropical regions. Australia: 10 species (7 species endemic, 1 species naturalized), all mainland States.
