Convolvulus recurvatus subsp. recurvatus R.W.Johnson APNI*

Description: Perennial with trailing and twining branches; stems terete, with appressed hairs, mainly towards the tip.

Leaves variable in shape from base to tip of stem; basal leaves with lamina oblong to linear, margins entire to crenate and base truncate to cordate; upper leaves ovate in outline, 1–3.5 cm long, 5–20 mm wide, apex rounded to acute, margins deeply 3–5-lobed with narrow to oblong basal lobes that have secondary recurved lobes, ascending lobes linear to narrowly ovate, conspicuous, sparsely to moderately hairy; petiole 2–20 mm long.

Inflorescence 1–2-flowered, usually solitary in the leaf axils; peduncle terete, 5–25 mm long, moderately to sparsely hairy with appressed to spreading hairs. Sepals to 5 mm long, moderately to densely hairy, sometimes ciliate at the apex. Corolla funnel-shaped, 6–8 mm long, 6–8 mm diam., white or pink.

Capsule globose, 4–5 mm long, 4–5.5 mm diam., glabrous; fruiting pedicels strongly recurved. Seeds 2.5–3.5 mm long, with numerous, wavy tubercles and a discontinuous wing-like structure at the margins.

Flowering: Mainly late winter till mid spring.

Distribution and occurrence: Western NSW, north-eastern SA and NW Victoria.

Found on red brown earths and sandy loam soils, often in low-lying areas like flood-plains, in open eucalypt woodland or mallee shrubland, and dry lake beds.
