Description: Erect annual with stems to 15 cm high, scarcely branched.

Leaves lanceolate, mostly 2–5 mm long, 1.5–3 mm wide, abruptly constricted towards base, flat to concave, often red-brown; sessile.

Inflorescences spike-like thyrsoids or panicles; pedicels ± absent. Flowers mainly 5-merous. Calyx lobes 1–2.5 mm long. Corolla pale yellow to red, lobes 1–2 mm long. Carpel scales oblong.

Follicles elliptical, usually smooth or rarely with bulging epidermal cells, pale.
