Hybanthus vernonii subsp. scaber E.M.Benn. APNI*

Description: Perennial herb to 1 m high, glabrous or scabrous.

Leaves with lamina mostly lanceolate, upper leaves sometimes linear, 0.5–4.5 cm long, margins recurved; stipules linear, 0.5 mm long.

Flowers solitary. Sepals 1.5–5 mm long, green or mauve. Lower petal ovate, 9–13 mm long; lateral petals 1.5–3 mm long, several-veined, upper petals narrow-oblong, 1-veined. Anthers hairy, the appendages triangular.

Capsule 6–8 mm long; seeds 3–6, smooth.
