Oenothera laciniata subsp. laciniata Hill APNI*

Description: Annual or occasionally perennial herb to c. 50 cm high with basal rosette and taproot, stems one or more, usually with spreading hairs especially in the flowering region.

Basal leaves narrow-oblanceolate, c. 10 cm long, petiole c. 20 mm long; cauline leaves mostly oblanceolate, usually 2–6 cm long, margins entire or toothed to sinuate-pinnatifid.

Flowers in upper leaf axils. Hypanthium 1.5–3.5 cm long, slender. Sepals 5–12 mm long. Petals 5–15 mm long, yellow becoming reddish with age.

Fruit ± cylindrical, 10–30 mm long, curved, with long dense spreading hairs.

Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized in scattered localities, Coonabarabran district to the Hunter R. valley. Native of N Amer.
