Poa labillardierei var. labillardierei Steud. APNI*

Description: Coarse, densely caespitose perennial to 1.2 m high, with mostly intravaginal innovations.

Leaves with sheath usually pallid at the base; ligule c. 0.5 mm long, truncate; blade flat or inrolled, to 3.5 mm wide, scabrous, moderately rigid.

Panicle 10–25 cm long, with erect or erectly and loosely spreading branches. Spikelets 3–8-flowered, strongly laterally compressed, c. 4–6 mm long. Glumes 2–3.5 mm long, 1–3-nerved, ± scabrous on the keels. Lemmas 2.5–4.5 mm long, usually hairy on the keel in the lower 50% and on the lateral nerves towards the base, usually glabrous on the internerves; web usually copious, consisting of long hairs. Palea closely scabrous on the keels in the upper 65%.

Flowering: Flowers most of year.

Distribution and occurrence: Widespread, occurring throughout the Coastal, Tablelands, Western Slopes and Western Slopes; also Qld, Vic., Tas., and SA.

Grows on river flats and moist situations, and in forests, extending up open sheltered slopes.
