Cycads in South-east Asia (Malesia)

The cycad flora of this region is the most poorly known of all, with 14 species of Cycas (Cycadaceae) recorded. Although the high local diversity such as seen in northern Australia or Vietnam does not seem to occur, there is still considerable complexity and much remains unknown. Several major groups are present, and dispersal seems to have been by both continental drift and oceanic currents.
