Cycads in the south-west Pacific

Two species of Cycas occur in the south-west Pacific, on different island groups. Both are members of the widespread C. rumphii group, which has floating seeds for aquatic dispersal. Both occur in forests on coral sand and raised coral pavements near beaches, and both extend further inland on heavier clay soils over volcanics.
