Description:
Plants arborescent, or acaulescent; stem 32-105 cm long, stem 19-28 cm diam; persistent leaf bases dark, spreading. Leaves 6-23 in crown. New growth emerging bronze, red or chocolate brown. Leaves dark green, highly glossy, 115-118 cm long, flat (not keeled) in section, with 98-164 leaflets; vernation straight; rachis not or slightly spirally twisted; petiole 22-59 cm long, armed with prickles. Leaflets not clustered, linear, symmetric, broadest below middle, not falcate, weakly discolorous, thick or leathery; margins incurved; median leaflets 26-45 cm long, 8-12 mm wide. Cataphylls 30-80 mm long, brown. Pollen cones yellow-green, narrowly ovoid-cylindrical or fusiform-cylindrical (to conical), 26-57 cm long, 4.2-7.7 cm diam.; peduncle 3-11.5 cm long; microsporophyll lamina 13-20 mm long, 5-10 mm wide, with two horns 1-3 mm long. Seed cones brown, ovoid-cylindrical, 26-48 cm long, 8.2-12.7 cm diam.; peduncle 5.5-14 cm long; megasporophyll 53-58 mm long, with an expanded peltate apex 19-25 mm wide, with two horns 1-3 mm long. Seeds ovoid, 23-27 mm long, 17-19 mm wide.
