Distribution and habitat: Mexico - Oaxaca
Conservation status: 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants category V.
Description:
Plants arborescent. Stem 6 m tall, 40 cm diam.
Leaves dark green, semiglossy, 130-150 cm long, flat (not keeled) in
section (opposing leaflets inserted at 180° on rachis), with 230-260
leaflets; basal leaflets not reducing to spines, petiole spine-free for 13-15 cm.
Leaflets linear, not falcate, inserted at 60° to rachis, not
overlapping; margins flat, dentate; median leaflets 10-12 cm long, 7-9 mm wide.
Pollen cones fusiform, pale brown, 30-40 cm long, 6-8 cm diam.
Seed cones ovoid, pale brown, 30-50 cm long, 20-30 cm diam.
Seeds subglobose, 25-30 mm long, 25-30 mm wide, sarcotesta cream or
white.
