Preserved type specimens are the basis and permanent reference point
for scientific plant names. These types are an essential resource for
botanists and students of biodiversity world-wide, ensuring that
plant names are always properly applied and understood.
The type specimens held by the National herbarium of New South Wales
are being electronically catalogued and digitally imaged. The catalogue
and images are now available for searching and perusal across the internet,
making this vital resource accessable to all without threatening this
important collection with damage from overuse.
The first group to be imaged and included is the eucalypt group, with about 1200 images now available.
