Associations

Acacias are associated with a large suite of animals, most of which appear to be harmful to the plant except those implicated with pollination and seed dispersal. In some cases the association between the plant and animal is specific to species (or to a group of species). This has led some observers to speculate on a long evolutionary association of the Australian fauna and acacias. All parts of the plant - flowers, leaves and phyllodes, legumes and seeds, stems, trunk and roots - are all utilized by many animals.
