Cosmarium quadriverrucosum var. supraornatum Skuja Zygnematophyceae AlgaeBase*

Class Zygnematophyceae
Family Desmidiaceae

Description: VICTORIA: L 26.9um, Br 24.7um, Isth 6.8um, Th ??um (missing in publication article), L:Br 1.1. This plant differs from the nominal in having a slightly flattened apex, more elaborate ornamentation, more rows of intramarginal granules and larger granules forming its paired central tumours. (Dingley 2003). NSW: L. 29.4um, BR 26.8um, I 8.9um, L:Br. 1.1. This variety is distinguished from the nominal in having more intramarginal granules, a larger central tumour and larger dimensions. Some cells in this sample have well delineated central tumours whilst in others they are less developed showing in three vertical rows instead of two. Skuja (1949) and Croasdale & Flint (1988, p.95, Pl. 45:3–5) show paired central tumours in the mid region. Dingly (2001) found this for the first time in Australia in NSW but it has now turned up in two other sites within NSW state making it more common than previously known. (Dingley 2004)
