Pleurotaenium subcoronulatium var. subcoronulatum (W.B.Turner) West & G.S.West Zygnematophyceae AlgaeBase*

Class Zygnematophyceae
Family Desmidiaceae

Description: L 778.0–794.8um, Br 42.5–45.7um, Isth 35.2–40.8um, L:Br 17.0–18.7. Three slight undulations below the basal inflation were evident and there were 3–4 slight undulations just below the apex. Each cell contained 10 apical tubercles as well as a prominent isthmal ring. Cell morphology is consistent with that reported by Ling and Tyler 1986 (p. 37) aothough they also reported 'the plants characteristaclly form short filaments'; no such lifaments were seen in the sample. The length of these algae places them near P. subcoronulatum v. subcoronulatum f. elongatum Croasdale & Scott but they differ in having a smaller L:Br. (Dingley 2001)

State distribution in Australia, based on available literature

new record for NSW (Dingley 2001)
