Staurodesmus convergens (Ehrenb.) Teiling var. convergens Class Zygnematophyceae
Family Desmidiaceae

Synonyms: Arthrodesmus convergens Ehrenb. ex Ralfs AlgaeBase*

Description: L. 44.1–52.5um, Br. csp. 56.9–65.6um, Isth. 13.1–17.1um (Fig. 11d). These individuals are slightly larger than those recorded from New Zealand (Croasdale et al. 1994) but not enough to warrant the designation forma 'major'. Cell walls are finely punctate. This taxon differs from S. gibberulus (Joshua) Teiling in having a narrower elliptical cell in end view whereas S. gibberulus has an almost spherical appearance. (Dingley 2001)
