Description: Cells elliptical in outline, about 1.5times longer than broad, with a deep, closed or slightly opened, linear sinus. semicells with shallowly incised, broadly rounded lobes. Apical lobe relatively broad, with a rather deep, median invagination. lateral lobes unequal, the lower one, provided with a V-shaped incision, being about twice as broad as the upper one. Semicell wall furnished with a series of marginal and intramarginal, flattened granules and a large, granulated central tumour. Semicell wall around the central tumour marked by coarse scrobicles, near the lobal incisions fusing to longitudinal furrows. cell lenght 52–62um, cell breadth 33–40um, cell thickness circa 30um, breadth of isthmus 7–9um. E. scrobiculosum is a morphologically well distinguishable, little variable species, mainly characterized by its obtusely rounded semicell lobes and a marked scrobiculation around the central semicell tumour. (Coesel & Dingley 2005)
