Staurastrum sp. sensu Dingley 2001 Zygnematophyceae AlgaeBase*

Class Zygnematophyceae
Family Desmidiaceae

Description: L.25.3–26.9um, Br. 29.9–30.8um, I. 7.6–8.4um, L:Br. 0.85–0.87. This taxon is very similar to 'Staurastrum multigranulosum' except that it is less than half the size. the dorsal and ventral margins are mostly equally concave although the ventral margins were seen slightly convex to straight in one plant. The angles are tipped with 3–4 small spines. There were only a small number in this sample and in all of the cells the chloroplasts were distorted and the details were not discernible. A search of the lit. has failed to find an identical taxon to which it can be assigned. Further specimens are needed to assign a name with certainty. (Dingley 2001)
