Genus Archirhodomyrtus Family Myrtaceae

Description: Trees or shrubs; new growth glabrous or minutely pubescent.

Leaves opposite, petiolate.

Inflorescences axillary, flowers solitary or more rarely in 2- or 3-flowered cymes. Flowers 5-merous. Hypanthium urceolate, not extending beyond the ovary summit. Sepals free. Petals free. Stamens numerous; anthers ± globose. Ovary inferior, 2- or 3-locular; ovules numerous, in 2 rows; stigma peltate.

Fruit a berry, smooth; seeds numerous, not separated by false septa, testa bony; embryo curved, cotyledons very small.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 5 species, Australia & New Caledonia. Australia: 1 species (endemic).
