Genus Aruncus Family Rosaceae

Description: Perennial herbs.

Leaves compound; stipules absent.

Inflorescence a terminal panicle. Flowers bisexual and unisexual, plants mainly dioecious but with some bisexual flowers on otherwise male or female plants. Stamens numerous. Carpel 3, free.

Fruit a cluster of free follicles; seeds several.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 12 species, northern temperate regions. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).

Aruncus was formerly placed in the family Malaceae (now part of Rosaceae), e.g.Flora of New South Wales.
