Genus Reseda Family Resedaceae

Description: Perennial [or annual] herbs, mostly with basal rosettes and ribbed stems with decurrent leaves reducing in size up the stem.

Inflorescence dense, elongate. Petals clawed and often winged below, petals variously and deeply lobed above. Stamens usually 12–25; filaments 2–4 mm long, anthers versatile. Ovary usually with 3 apical teeth.

Capsule gaping open at apex; seeds numerous.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 55 species from the Mediterranean region to Asia. Australia: 4 species (naturalized).
