Cardiospermum halicacabum var. halicacabum L. APNI*

Description: Herbaceous climber, similar to the above species but less hairy and smaller in all parts.

Leaves mostly 4–10 cm long; leaflets lanceolate to ± ovate, 1–3.5 cm long, 0.5–2 cm wide, coarsely toothed, apex acute; petiole 1–3.5 cm long, lateral petiolules 3–4 mm long.

Flowers 3–4 mm long, white. Peduncle 2.5–7 cm long, pedicels c. 2 mm long.

Capsule subglobose, 2.5–3.5 cm long and wide; seeds 3–5 mm diam., aril 2-lobed.

Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized in moist sites; not common, chiefly in the Sydney district. Native of trop. Amer., Afr., Asia; weed of warmer countries.
