Cassinia aculeata subsp. aculeata (Labill.) R.Br. APNI*

Description: Erect shrubs or small trees 0.5–6 m high.

Leaves linear with margins entire and revolute almost to the midrib. 3–50 mm long, 0.7–2.0 wide. (rarely leaves flattened and 3–5 mm wide); coarsely aculeate above; lower surface of leaves white tomentose, with stiff multicellular hairs emergent, particularly on midrib.

Flower heads white, speckled green from the lower greenish-hyaline bases of the phyllaries, ovoid at first and becoming obconical, 4–5 mm long. Florets 5 or 6, rarely 7.


Flowering: Flowers from October to January. Fruits December to March.

Distribution and occurrence: Extends from eastern NSW through Victoria to Tasmania. In NSW it is found in the Central and South Coast, Central and Southern Tableland districts, rare in Central Western and South Western Slopes.

Found in a wide range of habitats.
