Cassinia macrocephala subsp. macrocephala Orchard APNI* Description: Robust shrubs 0.3–2 m high; hairs on young stems dense, finely acicular, gland-tipped when young.
Mature leaves 30–70 mm long, 1–2 mm wide with hairs on upper surface dense, finely acicular and gland-tipped (glands lost in older leaves); hairs on the undersurface of midrib similar, less dense, and lamina with cottony hairs, long fine gland-tipped hairs and subsessile globular hairs.
Flower heads with 15–17 florets.
Achenes red-purple, 1–1.2 mm long, moderately to densely hairy.
Distribution and occurrence: Confined to the northern tablelands of NSW on the Nandewar/Moonbi Ranges, from Mt Lindesay to Attunga State Forest and NW of Moonbi. Found in dry open Eucalytpus woodland, with Angophora floribunda, Eucalytpus prava, E. lawvopinea. E. macrorhyncha, E. andrewsii and E. quinniorum. It can be the dominant undershrub, but is usually very localised.
