Description: Shrubby perennial to c. 2 m high.

Leaves with sheath sparingly pilose, pubescent at the collar; blade soon deflexed, 1.5–4 mm wide, loosely pilose on the upper surface.

Panicle 2–14 cm long, 1–6 cm wide, the main axis strongly flattened, slightly striate, glabrous and smooth or minutely rough, primary branches 1–8-spiculate, the lowest to 3.5 cm long, mostly appressed. Spikelets 4.3–5 mm long, oblique on their pedicels. Lower glume 1–2.5 mm long, 3–5-nerved, rounded and minutely ciliolate at the apex, otherwise glabrous or sparsely hispid. Upper glume subequal to the spikelet, 9–11-nerved. Lower lemma as long as the spikelet, 7–9-nerved. Fertile floret not or scarcely mucronulate, c. 80% as long as the spikelet, pallid when young, then tawny, finally brown, the lemma subcircular when flattened.
