Arthraxon hispidus (Thunb.) Makino APNI* 
Description: Slender decumbent perennial, rooting at the lower nodes.
Leaves with sheath usually 1–3 cm long, mostly hispid, slightly inflated; ligule short, membranous, torn or slightly hairy; blade 2–6 cm long, 7–15 mm wide, ciliate towards base.
Racemes 2–5 per inflorescence, greenish to purple, bare at the base. Spikelets solitary, 4–5 mm long, the pedicel of the reduced pedicellate spikelet present and reduced or absent. Lower glume purplish, c. 9-nerved, scabrid with rows of fine antrorse tubercles on the nerves; upper glume strongly compressed and keeled, scabrid on the keel, greenish. Lemmas 65% the length of the glumes, the lower entire, nerveless, the upper 2-lobed; awn to 9 mm long, geniculate, twisted.
Flowering: summer–autumn.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in rainforest; north from Gibraltar Ra.
