Description: Shrub 0.5–2 m high, softly hairy, stinging hairs absent, dioecious.

Leaves opposite; lamina lanceolate to ovate, mostly 6–14 cm long, 2–8 cm wide, margins regularly toothed, upper surface ± scabrous; petiole 2–8 cm long.

Spikes 5–20 cm long, interrupted, clusters usually dense.

Achene enclosed in perianth. Fruits early autumn.


Distribution and occurrence: Often grows in open rocky places along watercourses in rainforest, north from the Dorrigo area.
