Common name: Angel's Trumpet
Brugmansia x candida Pers. APNI* Description: Large shrubs or small trees,to 4 m tall, often spreading clonally, all parts densely pubescent with simple, hairs.
Leaves ovate 12–17(-25) cm long, 5–12 cm wide, usually entire, rapex acute to acuminate, base oblique; petioles up to 6 cm long.
Flowers fragrant, solitary, pendulous, pedicels to 5.5 cm long. Calyx tubular, 8–12-(14) cm long, spathe-like, split on 1 side, acuminate (individual lobes not distinct). Corolla creamy white, 20–30 cm long, tube gradually becoming broadly cylindrical; lobes broadly triangular with acuminate tips to 4 cm long. Stamens not exserted; filaments hairy towartds the base.. Style included, stigma held above the anthers.
Fruit rarely formed.
Flowering: Flowering Spring–Summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Native to South America. Widely cultivated; recorded as sparingly naturalised in Hawaii and New Zealand. Sparingly naturalised garden-escape.
