Synonyms: Orthocarpus purpurascens Benth. APNI*

Description: Erect annual to 40 cm tall, stems reddish, slender, often corymbosely branched.

Leaves 1–5 cm long, deeply pinnatifid into filiform divisions.

Spikes dense, pale to deep purple, bracts 1–2 cm long, palmately 5–7 lobed, greenish hirsute at base to velvety and rose-purple at tips. Corolla 1.2–3.0 cm long, crimson or pink-purple, scarcely excerted. Lower lip mostly purplish often with white or wellow toward the tip and with purple dots. Galea slender, more or less hooked at apex.

Capsule 10–15 mm long.


Flowering: Spring flowering.

Distribution and occurrence: Known in NSW by a few collections made between 1916 and 1920 around Hawkesbury Agricultural College, and from the Trangii Experimental Farm.

Grassland and pasture.
