Description: Shrubby perennial to 1 m high.
Leaves with ligule a rim of hairs; blade 2–3 mm wide, with tubercle-based hairs on lower surface.
Terminal inflorescence 3–8.5 cm long. Chasmogamous spikelets 4.7–5.3 mm long. Lower glume to 0.35 mm long or absent; upper glume often toothed or mucronate, with tubercle-based hairs. Lower lemma pubescent like the upper glume. Fertile floret mucronate, 4.5–5 mm long; lemma slightly keeled, punctulate, margins sparsely ciliate. Palea minutely punctulate, ciliate on the margins, pubescent on the back. Upper glume of cleistogamous spikelets usually 7-nerved, pubescent with tubercle-based hairs. Lower lemma pilose like the glume; upper lemma glabrous except for the ciliate margins or with a few hairs, with a mucro to 0.8 mm long. Palea shortly mucronate, ciliate on the upper margins.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in dry scrub on sandstone; north from Mulgoa (Warramba Dam).
