Coleocarya gracilis S.T.Blake APNI*

Description: Monoecious perennial herb; rhizome 2–4 mm diam.

Culms green, simple or branched, usually erect, sometimes ascending, terete to furrowed, 15–60 cm high, c. 1 mm diam.

Sheaths lax, some spreading, apex truncate; lamina subulate or terete, up to 2 mm long, caducous. Male spikelets ovoid to obovoid, c. 7–10 mm long, erect, c. 10–16 flowers: glumes oblong, apex obtuse to mucronate. Female spikelets almost wholly enclosed in the floral bract at the node in the lower portion of the culm, narrow ovate, 10–11 mm long; glumes similar to male glumes, but longer.

Nut oblong, rounded at the ends, 3.5–4.5 mm long, seated upon a short thickened, whitish receptacle.
