Consolida ajacis (L.) Schur APNI*

Description: Pubescent herb with erect, branched or unbranched stems to 1 m high.

Leaves mostly cauline, 2–4 cm long and wide, divided into linear segments; petiolate.

Sepals 10–14 mm long, bright blue or rarely white or pink, spur 13–18 mm long.

Fruit 15–20 mm long.


Flowering: spring to summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Cultivated horticulturally, rarely naturalized in Goulburn district. Native of Medit. region.

This introduced species was previously referred to here as Consolida ambigua (L.) P.W.Ball & Heywood, but this name was misapplied (see notes in the Flora of Australia) (H. Sauquet, 2019).
