Echinochloa inundata P.W.Michael & Vickery APNI*

Description: Erect annual to 1.2 m high.

Leaves with ligule absent; blade to 12 mm wide, mostly glabrous.

Panicle 7–20 cm long, slightly nodding, narrow; racemes numerous, the lower mostly 2–6 cm long. Spikelets 2 or 3 together on short pedicels, broad-elliptic, 3–5 mm long, acuminate, cuspidate, sometimes with a short awn. Lower glume 50–60% of spikelet length, acute to acuminate or aristulate, 3–5-nerved; upper glume subequal to spikelet, acuminate to long-cuspidate or shortly awned, 5-nerved. Lower lemma equal to spikelet, similar to upper glume, 5–7-nerved, awns when present mostly to 3 cm long. Upper lemma broad-elliptic, 3–3.75, smooth, shining, greenish to yellowish. Lower palea ovate-oblong, > 75% length of lower lemma. Upper palea slightly shorter than fertile lemma.
