Description: Loose or densely tufted perennial to 0.6 m high.

Leaves with sheath enclosing culm, 25–50% of internode, ribbed, glabrous; ligule a ciliate rim, hairs c. 0.5 mm long with several hairs to 2 mm long at each end; blade tightly rolled, c. 1 mm wide, glabrous.

Inflorescence a compact panicle, 3–5 cm long, c. 1 cm wide, exserted; rachis flexuous. Spikelet of 2 florets. Glumes equal, c. 4 mm long, glabrous, ribbed. Lemmas awnless, c. 5 mm long, pilose with hairs c. 1 mm long, glabrous near apex. Palea awnless, pubescent or with appressed hairs c. 0.5 mm long.


Flowering: summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows on sandy soil in wet heath and Melaleuca swamps.
