Description: Loosely tufted perennial to 0.8 m high.

Leaves with sheath close to culm, with dense to sparse tubercle-based hairs to 2 mm long; ligule a row of cilia 0.5 mm long with a tuft of hairs c. 1 mm long at each end; blade ribbed, flat, rolled when dry, to 5 mm wide, glabrous [or with sparse tubercle-based hairs].

Inflorescence open, paniculate, 5–10 cm long, 3–4 cm wide, enclosed by uppermost sheath or exserted; rachis pilose. Spikelet of 2 florets. Glumes aristate, equal, rigid tubercle-based hairs c. 2 mm long on lower glume [or both]. Lemmas covered in silky hairs c. 2 mm long; awn terminal, curved, c. 2 cm long, strigose. Palea covered in silky hairs; 2-fid, awns c. 3 mm long, strigose.
