Eschscholzia californica Cham. APNI*

Description: Erect annual to c. 50 cm high.

Leaves 3-pinnatisect into linear lobes 2–4 mm wide, radical leaves to 15 cm long; petiole c. twice as long as the lamina.

Pedicels 10–15 mm long. Petals yellow to bright orange (to red), to 3 (-6) cm long.

Capsule 6–9 cm long, 4–5 mm diam.

Distribution and occurrence: widely cultivated (including various cultivars), sometimes naturalised. Native of America, Europe.
